Social media post from Registered Student Organization

The university is aware of a Registered Student Organization that used social media to post a provocative graphic of a federal agent with a weapon pointed at a protester kneeling on the ground.

This matter has been reported to the Title VI Office, which is reviewing reports received about the incident and processing them in accordance with normal protocols. Hate and intolerance are not aligned with our university values. We condemn rhetoric or imagery that appears to glorify violence or demean individuals or groups based on identity or beliefs. Such rhetoric does not reflect the values of dignity, respect, and care that we expect from members of our community. We strive to be a campus where every member of our community has a transformative and positive experience.

Registered Student Organizations are autonomous and independent from the university. They are responsible for managing their own affairs, and their social media accounts represent their own views, not those of the university. They remain responsible for complying with university policies, but the university cannot discipline them for the viewpoint or content of protected speech.
