Campus Stock Video Database

High-Quality Video for Promotional Use

The Campus Stock Video Database provides professional quality video (b-roll) for the use of campus faculty and staff in the production of promotional and marketing videos for the Urbana-Champaign campus and for instructional purposes.

Terms of Use

No video attained through this database may be used for any purpose other than promoting the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or educating its students. This video may not be used for personal or commercial projects.

There is no limit on the number of video clips that can be downloaded from the Video Database.

Securing Video Database access

Faculty and staff members can gain access to the Video Database for themselves or their students by following the steps below. Your request for Video Database permissions IS YOUR ACCEPTANCE of the terms of use above.

Violations of the terms of use will result in rescinded permissions.

  1. NOTE: This step will not be necessary if you already have a Photoshelter account (e.g., if you are registered for the StratCom Image Database). Go to https://illinois.photoshelter.com, hit ‘login’ and then ‘register for a free account’. You will get an email from Photoshelter that includes a link to activate your account.
  2. Use the following forms to register for the Illinois Video Database. Be sure to use the same email address you gave Photoshelter:

We will update registrations daily, but it may take up to 24 hours for you to gain access to the video galleries.

If you still don’t have access after 24 hours, please contact Todd Wilson, etwilson@illinois.edu, 217-333-4059.

Working with a vendor

You may provide b-roll clips from the Video Database to vendors who are producing marketing/promotional videos for your campus unit. However, vendors may not independently access the database or download its resources. Never give your password to a vendor.

The vendor must acknowledge that U. of I. copyrighted clips will not be used for any other purpose than the current production. Such a use would be a copyright infringement. A ‘terms of use’ agreement is provided for vendors for your convenience.

Requesting new shots

Video Services is a cost-recovery unit within StratCom – we must generate revenue to cover all of our costs. However, we do have some budget set aside to do a limited amount of new shooting each semester specifically for the Video Database. You may suggest new shots for the database by sending an email to videoservices@illinois.edu. We will collect those throughout the semester and shoot as many as possible in the time available.

Suggested shots will be chosen based on our estimation of which shots would be the most widely useful and/or would fill a hole in our coverage. A very specific request (e.g., a specific lab or person) is less likely to be filled than a broad request (e.g., students doing volunteer work).

Student access

Faculty and staff may provide students with access to database resources if the student is working for the campus unit to create promotional content. Students may be given access to database resources for classroom projects, however the resulting projects and the specific footage may not be broadcast or published in any way, including online.

All student access will be deleted at the end of the academic year. Faculty/staff will need to register returning student workers each year.
